Piano reconditioning focuses on improving the performance of a piano without the scope of a full restoration. Many instruments suffer from wear, neglect, or years without proper service, yet still have strong structural foundations. Through careful cleaning, regulation, action adjustment, and targeted repair, a worn piano can often be returned to reliable musical use. Our goal is to address the areas that most affect touch, tone, and stability while preserving the original character of the instrument.
These images show the before and after of polishing heavily corroded pedals on a Steinway & Sons Model M. Years of oxidation had dulled the brass and left the surfaces uneven. The pedal assembly was carefully disassembled, cleaned, polished, and then coated with a protective film to slow future corrosion. The result restores the original appearance of the brass while preserving the underlying components.
PIANO LEG REPAIR
These images show the repair of a piano leg that had been severely damaged when a dog chewed through the wood. Large portions of the leg had been gouged and splintered, leaving missing material and exposed wood. The damaged areas were carefully rebuilt using epoxy, then shaped and sanded to restore the original contours of the leg. The repair was color matched to the surrounding finish, sealed, and lacquered so it blends seamlessly with the existing cabinet. Once completed, the prior damage is invisible and the leg once again appears original to the instrument.
