Piano Evaluation
PIANO EVALUATION SERVICE IN DALLAS, TX
UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUMENT – MAKE INFORMED CHOICES
Most pianos do not fail suddenly. They decline slowly, often over decades, and owners are left trying to decide what the instrument is actually worth and what should be done with it.
An evaluation is the first step toward clarity. Whether a piano was recently purchased, inherited, or has been in the family for generations, a careful inspection reveals its structural condition, musical potential, and realistic options moving forward. Many instruments benefit from restoration, some require only limited work, and others are better left as they are. The purpose of an evaluation is not to sell a service — it is to understand the piano. This allows owners to make informed decisions about repair, rebuilding, sale, or preservation.
Understanding a Piano’s True Condition
Many pianos that appear worn are capable of long service, while others that look attractive may have compromised pinblocks, unstable bridges, or advanced action wear. An experienced inspection explains what the piano can realistically provide and whether maintenance, repair, rebuilding, or preservation is the most sensible path. A proper evaluation looks beyond appearance and considers how the instrument functions as a whole. Age and finish condition alone do not determine a piano’s usefulness. Structural stability, tuning reliability, and mechanical wear are far more meaningful indicators.

DOES THAT MEAN I NEED TO RESTORE MY PIANO?
An evaluation does not obligate restoration. In many cases, only limited work is recommended. When restoration is appropriate, owners receive a clear explanation of why, what the work accomplishes, and what results can realistically be expected. The goal is not to create a project — it is to help an owner make a sound long-term decision.
When an Evaluation is Especially Helpful
WHEN YOU NEED A PROFESSIONAL
An evaluation is especially helpful when a piano has been inherited, purchased online, its a Steinway or valuable piano, when an instrument no longer holds tuning, or when restoration is being contemplated. It is also useful when a family is deciding whether to keep or sell a piano. If you are unsure what your instrument needs, an inspection is the proper starting point, allowing decisions to be made with confidence rather than speculation.
If you would like to understand your piano before committing to repairs or restoration, we’re happy to take a look. A brief conversation is often enough to determine whether an evaluation makes sense.
